Characteristics of SSIs:
  • Capital investment is small and most of them have small number of workers.
  • Generally owned by a single or at the most two persons and engaged in production of small goods.
  • Most of them are family owned industries.
  • Profit margins are less due to competition.
  • Generally found in urban or semi-urban areas.   
 Objectives: 
  • Creation of employment opportunities.
  • Improvement of output,income and better standard of living.
  • To encourage enterprenuership and reliance.
  • To reduce regional imbalances.
  Scopes:
  • Manufacturing activities
  • Servicing activities
  • Financial activities
  • Wholesale,transport,public activities
  Advantages of SSIs:
  • SSIs don't require to a high level of technology.
  • They do not require large capital.
  • The source and capabilities of under employed and unemployed people can be used for productive in a short period.
  • The project related to SSIs can be completed in short period and hence can become productive in a short period .
  • SSIs can be based on the processing of locally produced raw materials like agriculture goods, forest and mineral resources etc.

  • to secure for inventors awards for inventing.
  • to provide inventors a monopoly for commercial exploitation of the invention.
  • maintain flow of inventions.
  • to generate and promote scientific temper.
Patentable Inventions
  • Patent is issued only of those inventions  which are new and novel and have commercial value.
  • Invention must not be fnown earlier.
  • It must be usefull.

  • art,process,method or manner of manufacture.
  • machines,appliances and other articles.
